Conductive foams help combat Electro Static Discharge (ESD) and protect your sensitive electronic equipment. Carbon black is added to the polymer mix at manufacture, this makes it conductive by allowing the undesired electrical current to pass through the cell structure and away from the component. This foam type has permanent conductive properties and therefore has no restrictive shelf life, also its performance is not dependant on atmospheric conditions. Supplied in black only.
Conductive foams typically have a volume resistivity of less than 104 ohms.cms or a surface resistivity of less than 104 ohms/sq (ESD Association figures) resulting in a faster transfer of the static charge to the grounding source or a conductive material.

Static Dissipative foams typically have a volume resistivity in the ranges of 104 – 1011 ohms.cms or a surface resistivity in the ranges of 104 – 1011 ohms/sq (ESD Association figures) resulting in a slower but more controlled transfer of the static charge.
Generally pink in colour and containing an Antistatic additive, these foams give a surface conductivity that depletes over time. An antistatic additive such as Glycerol Mononstearate (GMS) or similar is introduced during the extrusion phase of the material manufacture, this additive will then slowly migrate to the edges of the foam sheets and assemble itself in lines on the surface. One end of the microscopic antistatic molecule protrudes from the material edge and draws in moisture from the ambient air to allow a conductive path for current to pass through. Over a period of time this conductive effect diminishes so it is considered to have a shelf life.
Anti-static foams typically have a volume resistively in the ranges of 1010 – 1012 ohms.cms and often have a surface resistivity that is slightly higher due to the added treatments (ESD Association figures). There may be some inherent conductivity present in this material type and performances can be enhanced with increased atmospheric humidity.
Neoprene (polychloroprene) closed cell expanded foam rubber (sponge) that boasts a high temperature tolerance with flame resistance. This foam type will provide a waterproof seal and provide thermal and sound insulation. It is energy absorbent.
This foam type is flexible and resistant to UV, weathering, ozone, ageing, acids, alkalis, oil and chemicals. Manufactured without the use of CFC’s. Only available in black.
EPDM (ethylene propylene diene monomer) is a closed cell synthetic expanded foam rubber (sponge) that has excellent properties against air and water when used as a gasket or seal. This foam type is highly flexible, performs well in most temperatures and provides excellent thermal and sound insulation. Other benefits include energy absorbance and fire resistance.
This foam type is resistant to UV, ozone, acids, alkalis and ageing. Produced without using CFC’s or HCFC’s making it easily recyclable.
Often associated with filtration systems this net type of foam is very porous with a low density. This foam is graded by pores per inch (PPI) and varies from 4ppi which is very coarse to 100ppi which is very fine. We have stock supplies of a 23-30ppi grade that we find is good for most applications, however if another is required please do not hesitate to contact us to discuss.
Reticulated foam is also commonly known as a skeletal foam because the construction is made up of just cell struts (with the cell windows removed) creating a completely open structure. 97% of the foam is void therefore making it ideal for use in the filtration of dust and particles from water or air.
We can supply this type of foam with a polyether base for use with water or water solutions or with a polyester base when air filtration is specified.
A Class O fire proof foam with an open cell structure made from Melamine. This foam type is easy to handle, lightweight, flexible and when exposed to heat it does not flame or emit any toxic fumes. Specifically designed for use in thermal and acoustic insulation applications.
